Very enlightening to hear about Malaysian Chinese from an outside point of view!

interesting to see how other cultures view “beauty”. i’m lucky that i won the genetic lottery in my country (mainly high nose, defined chin, and brown skin for males) but if i go to 中国 i would probably end up below average 😂

I love this interview! It’s so good for facial features and adjectives. These kids are sometimes superficial and sometimes very poetic. I was surprised by some cultural thing like the lucky thick ears. It’s nice to see people like facial features for reasons other than beauty.

In most cases, the reason for unsatisfactory results of learning a foreign language is a loss of interest in the student, or you have stopped at some stage of their training and began to "stomp in one place. I live in Taiwan and found it interesting how must Han people desire white skin. Being that in Europe and else where in the west Caucasians desire darker skin. I was also shocked that as a Caucasian I am darker than many Han people. I often get asked if I’m mixed haha 😂.

At some points it's gut wrenching hearing about people suffering in such horrible ways as described in the video. On the other hand, I do think that talking about China's problems too instead of just focusing on the positives as pretty much every standard textbook does makes learners care more about China and the Chinese and brings them closer. Meanwhile I agree that tagging this one as 'intermediate' is not very accurate, there is plenty of stuff that even experienced learners of Chinese are not familiar with, and the fact that a solid bit of it is colloquial rather than literary or official style doesn't make it easier. I notice a particular use that I'm not very used to, adding personal pronouns right after the subjects: 我的朋友她被欺负了 一个一直欺负人的人他有一种优越感 很多霸凌的人他是自我正义化的 (I'd expect to encounter 他们 here rather than 他, maybe someone can explain why I'm wrong?) Is this a new trend? Is it really used this often or are Eileen and Sharon overusing it a bit in this conversation?
